RK ROBERTSON INTERCLUB CHALLENGE 2017-2018 RESULTS

It’s been a mixed bag of weather conditions for the RK Robertson Series so far with little to no breeze at times in Race 1, boats parked in the water and plenty of frustrated skippers and crew wishing a puff would blow through. The breeze (what there was) was inconsistent and tricky & at one point 2 yachts passed right next to each other, going opposite directions and both flying spinnakers!

Race 2 saw a much more consistent 12-15 knot ENE breeze and some fantastic results from SLMASC, with Stealthy now 3rd and Anarchy 6th in the overall RK Shield Individual. Teamwork from all our skippers and crew over Race 1 and 2 has now escalated SLMASC to 2nd overall in the RKR Club Shield with Wangi on 54.90, SLMASC on 61.00, RMYC on 63.49 & LMYC on 68.67. An awesome achievement so far! Click here https://lmyc.com.au/race-results/ to view all Individual and Club Results.

Race 3 is fast approaching on Saturday 25th November hosted by LMYC and I encourage all SLMASC yachts entered to lock in the date! See you on the water and GO TEAM SOUTHLAKES!!!

Another week with more smooth sailing

Another great week on the water with the beginning of daylight savings. Wednesday night sailing has begun, the first twilight race was a success and normal Sunday racing swung back into action.

Twilight Race

We had 16 boats across both divisions showing up for the first race of the season with a fantastically strong competition especially in division 2. The wind decreased as the night went on from the 15-20kt southerly at 3pm to the 5-10kt SE once the racing begun. Race wins went to Mal on Wings in Division 1 and to Simon on Sail La Vie in Division 2

Sunday Sailing

In comparison to the long weekend the club was a little quieter. Our first Learn to Sail class kicked off with 12 Opti sailors hitting the water for Adventure sailing and Opti racing. After the Opti’s we had a afternoon race with mostly Impulses racing but also two former Opti boys Dan and Darcy taking on the 29er.

Wednesday Afternoons

Wednesdays are officially a go!! This week we had 7 very keen Opti sailors hitting the water enjoying the nice 7-14kt ENE breeze. Wednesday sailing is open to all dinghy sailors wanting to get out and get some extra time on the beautiful waters of Lake Macquarie.

This Week/Weekend

FRIDAY – Friday twilight racing continues again. We also have our Fun Social Fridays that will start this week so come down bring a mate and get with the good vibes on and off the water.

SUNDAY – Our Sunday morning BBQ is back with Brendon cooking from 9:30. Learn to Sail starts at 10am with Adventure Racing starting from 11am. Dinghy Racing will start from 2pm.

WEDNESDAY – Wednesday afternoons will continue and are open for any other dinghy sailors wanting to get out and get some extra time on the beautiful waters of Lake Macquarie.

Around the club this weekend…

After the very successful 2017 Trinity Point NSW Youth Championships is time to get into the swing of the rest of the season but not before we congratulate all evolved. Most importantly was the Young Team SLMASC sailors that competed hard to come away with some great results all the sailors should be proud of there efforts. The other stand out was the great turn out of the 100+ volunteers, “ The Red Army” that turned up to help out from the BBQ, to Canteen to Launching to in the Race office. We would also like to thank all of our wonderful sponsors as this simply could not have happened with out them

This weekend we have Dinghy sailing with racing starting from 2pm and our first Learn to Sail classes for the season starting from 10am. We also kick off the Friday Twilight racing, view handicaps below:
