Nationals Wrap Up

Along with the end to the long awaited Christmas holidays comes the end to many national titles around the country. TEAM SLMASC has been very successful this year with 2 national champions across 3 national championships and many fantastic results.

Michael Brown took out his 7th Impulse National Title with another fantastic win at the 33rd Australian Impulse Championships held at Teralba ASC. The regatta wasn’t without plenty of thrills and spills especially with some heavier breeze towards the end of the regatta as Browny sailed away with the win. Congratulations to Steven Bull for taking out the Grand Grand Masters division. We were also well represented at this years Impulse Nationals with seven South Lakes sailors competing on the Northern side of the lake with some fantastic results against a strong 50 boat fleet.

The 54th Cherub Nationals, held at Drummoyne Sailing Club, saw a fantastic turn out with 40 boats competing for the title in some tricky Sydney harbour conditions. Some very close racing saw Peter and Scott Charlton come away with a 14th for the regatta.

We had some fantastic result from a team of 6 junior SLMASC sailors that made the trip to Largs Bay Sailing Club in South Australia for the 2017 Optimist Australian Championships. The regatta played host to over 30+ international contenders that increased the quality of the fleet as they competed in a range of wind strengths throughout the regatta. We had Bridget and Trent competing in the open class where they did extremely well with Bridget being selected for the Australian Female Opti Team. In the intermediate fleet we had Joel, Logan, Asher and Dylan competing. Huge congratulations from TEAM SLMASC to Joel on taking out the National Title an absolute fantastic effort. Logan picked up a race win finishing 7th overall picking up plenty of experience along the way. Asher and Dylan managed to survive their first taste of a national championship gaining some amazing experiences and we are told they are looking forward to next year. A remarkable effort from all our SLMASC Opti sailors in what seems to have been a great regatta both on and off the water.

Congratulations to all TEAM SLMASC sailors…..
