Position Vacant …. apply within

Do you like sailing and are you good with Hooters?

The club is looking for someone (or perhaps several people) who may be interested in taking on or perhaps sharing the roll of Race Officer (Starter/Finisher) for Friday twilight racing this season.

If you know of someone who may be suited to the roll and interested, then please email racing@slmasc.org or call 0438 724599 to discuss.

Training can be provided and if you can’t be on the water racing, then this roll allows you to be actively involved in the sailing action while having the best view of the lake from up in the judges box on top of the club.

Inexperience need not be a concern as training and assistance with course selection can be provided where needed. We can also arrange for full Yachting Australia Race Officer Training to be provided (1 day course).

If we are unable to fill the position then a yacht duty roster will be implemented over the coming weeks to allocate Race Officer duties to individual SLMASC yachts who will be expected to perform these duties on average once during the season.

We thank Chris Cook for her dedication to the roll over many years and hope that she is still able to assist throughout the season when her work schedule permits.

Smooth Sailing

Time is running out to book your Category 7 Yacht Safety check

If you haven’t already had your Yacht Category 7 Safety inspection completed (and passed) then time is fast running out and you need to take action now.

You have until this coming SATURDAY to have your boat inpsected and passed, after which you must have passed the Category 7 inspection before being eligible to accrue points in any further club pointscore races. To book your yacht in for an inspection contact Doug Wilson today onĀ  0411 372 105 to arrange an inspection time for this Saturday morning (between 9am and midday). Arranging the inspection of yachts is the responsibility of the owner/skipper, so if your boat is not ready for inspection this Saturday, you will need to make alternative arrangements with a club safety auditor at a mutually agreeable time prior to competeing in your next race.

Category 7 Safety information and documentation is available from the Yacht page of the website, and YA Blue Books can be purchased from the club at cost price ($35).

Category 7 is a very basic requirement that is not onerous to meet, and compliance by all yachts helps to ensure the safety of all sailors.

Don’t put it off any longer …. book your safety inspection now. If you have any queries about the process then please read the Category 7 Safety documents on the website. If you have any specific queries not covered in these documents, please give Doug Wilson or one of the other club safety auditors a call to discuss.

Smooth (and Safe) Sailing
