Send Adam Beashel your support

This weekend, Adam Beashel and Emirates Team New Zealand take on the might of Oracle USA in the first races of the Americas Cup final being sailed in San Francisco USA.

Adam is a,local to our area, and prior to leaving for his current Americas Cup campaign, he sailed regularly at SLMASC in twilight yacht races, as well as having represented the club in major international events including the World Moth Championships. You can send Adam your direct message of support both prior to and during the Americas Cup final, by emailing him at     adam.beashel@slmasc.org

SLMASC Website is LIVE

After 28 hours of blood, sweat and tears (Mine)…….the SLMASC Website is live………have a look. After many requests to include social media into the new website we’ve also created the following things.

TeamSlmasc on FACEBOOK and @TeamSlmasc on TWITTER. So if you are using either of these programs search for us and LIKE US.

For the coming sailing season we’ve also created a PINTEREST board and YOUTUBE Channel for the club which will be switched on soon.

Navigating around the new website:

As you can tell, slmasc.org doesn’t look like the old website. It’s a fresh new approach and we were looking to make the site more user friendly and interesting. Everything that was on the old website has transferred across to the new website. The main change everyone will see is the navigation bar: –

HOME / About SLMASC / MEMBERSHIP / DINGHY / YACHTS / EVENTS / Buy+Sell / CALENDAR / LINKS / CONTACT US

These links are simply a way of navigating to what you’re looking for. Let me explain:

If you are looking to contact the committee simply move your mouse across the page to CONTACT US and you will see a listing showing email addresses. Provided you have an email system loaded to your PC you can simply click on the committee email, draft your question and press send for it to be directed to the club committee member.

Let’s move onto another example:

If you are looking for Yacht Twilight Handicaps you simply move your mouse across the page to YACHTS and click. Scrolling half way down you will see the Twilight Handicaps.

I think the big change that people will notice is the UPCOMING DATES (located on the left side toolbar) and CALENDAR (main navigation toolbar).

We’ve created an Upcoming Dates widget (yes those things down the left and right side of the website home page are called a widget). This widget will show the next five (5) events happening at the club so you don’t have to navigate around the full calendar.

But if you’re like me and you like to plan ahead a little further than the next five (5) events, simply move your mouse across the navigation toolbar to CALANDER and click. You will now be redirected to the calendar page. This page will list “ALL” events by month. You will also notice that there are multiple colours on the calendar. The colours relate to the following: –

GREEN = Dinghy Sailing Program

BLUE = Yacht Sailing Program

RED = “Club / Committee Meetings”

PURPLE =  “Important Dates”

BEIGE = Dinghy “Learn @ Sail” program

So, if you’re a Yacht sailor and you only want the Yacht program (which is in BLUE) in calendar view scroll across on the navigation toolbar in calendar to “Categories”. A little drop down will appear and you simply select Yachts and the page will automatically update to show only the Yacht events for that month. Select print and you have what you’re looking for.

I hope this Newsletter goes someway to helping you navigate around the new website.

Smooth Sailing
