IMPORTANT …. New format for Interclub Series

Team SLMASC needs YOU !!

The annual interclub challenge series between SLMASC and MPASC kicks off again on SATURDAY 4th Feb 2012, with the first race this year to be hosted by MPASC.

The race format has been altered slightly this year to better accommodate all yachts, with the creation of separate Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker divisions, with the Non-Spinnaker yachts sailing a shorter course. Results of both divisions will count towards the interclub team point score and it is hoped that this change will increase the appeal for boats that do not normally fly kites (or those who are short of crew on the day and cannot do so). As a result of this change it would be great to see ALL of the Friday twilight fleet joining in the interclub series this year.

This is a team event, and those who sailed last year will recall how our strong team tactics won the series for SLMASC in convincing style. We know that MPASC are mounting a major challenge this year to try to reclaim the trophy, and they have even put in all new marks in new locations and designed a whole new series of courses to try to confuse us ….. so read the sailing instructions carefully! But we can fight fire with fire, so let’s turn up in numbers and swamp them with a Blue and Yellow armada.

This is where SLMASC NEEDS YOUR HELP. We need ALL SLMASC yachts on the water in both interclub races this year to help retain the trophy. If you are short of crew, let us know before this Sunday and we will try to recruit some of the clubs very experienced dinghy sailors into the team too. SLMASC boats are also requested to fly the club burgee on their backstay to put fear into the enemy.

Sailing instructions will be available from the MPASC website shortly and we will advise when these have been posted, but make sure you block out the date, rally the crew and get ready for a great day of teams racing followed by a BBQ on Saturday 4th February 2012 at Mannering Park (that’s Saturday week).

As usual, MPASC’s great hospitality will be on show ashore after the race with a BBQ and a few drinks along with the race 1 presentation well worth attending. MPASC will provide a shuttle boat and there are a number of moorings available for team SLMASC to raft up on.

So come on …. SLMASC needs YOU. Hope to see you in the winning team next week.

Smooth Sailing

Team SLMASC

PS: Race 2 in the interclub series will follow on Saturday 3rd Mar 2012. Reserve the date and book you crew up now.

Sunshine Sailors Simply Smash Sun Sail ….

The annual Tooheys Sun Sail regatta hosted by Lake Macquarie Yacht Club, the richest annual yachting regatta on the Lake,  has been run and won for another year, and what it year it has been for mighty ‘Team SLMASC’.

Represented by The Other Woman, Outlandish, Stealthy and Undecided, team SLMASC took on the best of best, and as usual made the ‘big boys’ sit up and takes lots of notice of ‘that little club somewhere at the bottom of the lake’. Sailed in perfect light conditions, The Other Woman was in sizzling form, simply smashing the fleet by taking out two 2nd places on handicap to win the overall regatta (and a charter yacht on the Whitsundays for a week courtesy of Sun Sail. I bet Doug has lots of new best friends!).

Interviewed after the race, Sailing Master Douglas BrownStock yelled of the win: “Wooooo, Woooooo, WooooHooooooo, Woooooooo, WooooooHooooooHooooooo, Wooooooo ….. I can’t believe we won …… Woooooooo, WooooooHooooo, Woooooo, Woooooo Hooooooooo, Whooooo!” (end quote). You possibly heard the interview live from the Sunshine foreshore upon return to the moorings late on Sunday night. The full crew of the ‘Brown Boat’ (The Other Woman) was Doug BrownStock (sailing master and wind whisperer), Michael Brown (Helmsman), Glenn Brown (Chief Buffer), Nick Auston-Brown (Frontier Land), Dan Worthington-Brown (Adventure Land), and Darren Harper- Brown (Fantasy Land), all sailed brilliantly and made the most of the ideal conditions. When asked to comment on the efforts of his crew, Brownstock sung their praises continually saying “Wooooooo WoooooHoooooo, Woooooo, Woooooo Hoooooooooooooo ….. ”

Although unable to quite match it in the conditions with The Other Woman, all of the SLMASC boats raced hard and placed extremely well in both individual races and overall, with Outlandish finishing in a tie for 7th, Stealthy in 13th, and Undecided in their first major regatta as part of Team SLMASC finishing in a creditable 25th in the large fleet.  As a result, for the second year running, and much to the surprise (and great annoyance) of the crews of the 40+ footer brigade and all of the entrants from other lake clubs, SLMASC defended the teams title won last year,  again taking out the Tooheys Sun Sail Regatta Teams Event in convincing style. Well done to all SLMASC crews for some great sailing and a well deserved victory. During the presentation at LMYC on Sunday afternoon, the ‘South Lakes’ chant broke out (with plenty of WooooHooooo’s ….. I’m not sure LMYC was quite ready for us!) with our crews then taking over the club to savour the sweetest of victories.

It was a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable weekend for all involved, and a massive challenge has now been set to make it three in a row for Team SLMASC at Sun Sail next year. It’s a great regatta with plenty of great prizes, and everyone has a chance of winning on handicap on the day, beating even the biggest and fastest yachts on the lake. SLMASC can enter more than one team next year, so make sure you circle the date on next years’ sailing program when it is published and get your boat and crew organised. SLMASC can do it again, and again, and again.

Team SLMASC ….….. Wooooo Hoooo!!
