Have you ever wondered what all those racing flags mean and wanted to find out?

Can you spare a day or two in late December or early January to assist as a Race officer at SLMASC?

SLMASC have coordinated with MPASC to schedule a Yachting NSW Club Race Officer training course on Sunday 5th August 2012 for all members who are interested in and able to assist with conducting race events. This is particulary important given that SLMASC is hosting 2 National Title events in Dec’12 and Jan’13, and will be looking for all members who can spare a day or two to assist in conducting these important regatta’s. Hosting major regatta events is the major source of funding, so participation of members is crtical for the success of your club ….. and besides, you get to enjoy a few days out on the lake watching some top level racing. It’s a tough gig!

Assisting with Race Officer duties is a great way to get involved or stay involved in the sport and become an integral part of the club’s race management team, and quite simply without volunteers to assist in this capacity the club cannot conduct weekly racing activites or major regattas. So don’t let lack of experience hold you back, as full training is now available via this free Yachting NSW course. To register for the course, please follow the link below:

Course Type: Club Race Officer
Date: 5 August 2012
Time: 9:30am – 5:00pm
Cost: Free

If you are interested in becoming a qualified Race Officer, please advise the club at slmasc@hotmail.com and also complete your free course registration by Sunday 21st October.

We are also still seeking expressions of interest for Yacht starter/finshers for next season, so if you know of someone who may be interested in getting involved as a part time hobby, even on a shared roster basis, then they should be encoraged to attend this free training course too. Please email the club at slmasc@hotmail.com for further details re this position.

Please pass the word around ….. thanks.

Yacht Point Scores decided in the dark ….

The yacht twilight series has been run and won for another year, with many positions in the final race deciding the outcome in both divisions.

Despite light breezes and fading light (in fact total darkness), most of the fleet made it home last Friday on a perfect evening, with the free BBQ at the club afterwards proving to be real hit with a great roll up and a good night had by all.

A vert big THANK YOU from all crews to all of the volunteers who have opened the club each week for spectators and started and finished the races this year (we don’t know how you managed in the dark last week?) …. without your dedication and support the series simply would not be possible. A job well done (again).

As we all know, every boat that gets on the water on a Friday night is a winner, but to those who fought it out for the pointscores and filled the top placings, congratulations and well done. The handicappers are after you for next season!

Provisional results are as follows:

Division one overall twilight Pointscore

1st Whitewash 161 points

2nd Hectic 157 points

3rd Breezin 155 points

Division two overall twilight Pointscore

1 www.chaos 161 points

2 Bundy 158 points

3 My Cole 149 points

Division one Autumn twilight Pointscore

1 Whitewash 55 points

2 Lakes 11 51 points

3 Hectic 48 points

Division one Autumn twilight Pointscore

1 www.chaos 55 points

2 Crackers 53 points

3 Condor Vee 49 points

Just a reminder that the Yacht Presentation dinner is on Saturday May 26th, starting from 1815 (or 6.15pm for land lubbers).  It’s always a good night so be sure to book early to guarantee a berth.  Invitations will be emailed to everyone soon.

The winter series starts the week AFTER Easter, so let’s hope the late summer extends for another month or so and we can get a good fleet on the water for this series.
