The 2012 Zhik Single Hander Dinghy Regatta is being hosted by SLMASC this weekend, with 4 races to be held over 2 days, with many of the best single hander dinghy sailors in the country doing battle in this unique yardstick event with thousands of dollars worth of major prizes generously donated by Zhik Australia being on the line.
Racing on Saturday commences at 2pm with 2 back to back races to be sailed, and then again on Sunday at 12.30pm with 2 more back to back races to conclude the series. The regatta is a unique event in that it provides a rare opportunity for many elite sailors to pit their skills against the best sailors in other single handed dinghy classes, with yardsticks then coming into play to determine the Zhik Top 10 in the overall standings. Results have been extremely close over recent years with ongoing refinement of the yardsticks used ensuring that most classes are represented in the Zhik Top 10. There are also prizes for individual class winners as well as numerous other categories.
It will be an extremely busy weekend at the club, as this is one of our major fund raising events on the annual sailing calendar, so if you can spare some time to help out either on or off the water on either Saturday or Sunday, please phone the club in the morning to check the volunteer rosters.
There will be no club dinghy racing this weekend as classes are encouraged to enter the regatta where eligible, however yacht racing will continue as normal. We also have week 2 classes of the new learn to sail program on Sunday morning at 9am (course is full), so it will be non-stop action over the entire weekend. The canteen and shop will be open on both days and the weather is looking promising for a great regatta, so why not drop by and watch some of the action and see if you can pick the Zhik Top 10 before the results are announced on Sunday afternoon.
